As a transplant to the beautiful city of Atlanta, GA from Phoenix, AZ I’m having a hard time dealing with the humidity. I went from hell hot in the desert, to sweating window panes in the south. So far, one of the things I’m loving down here is all the beautiful hair styles! As I’m driving down the street, peeking inside folks car, or rushing to a meeting I’m passing beautiful Black women and their hair is on Fleek!
Here is my list of 10 Hair Styles for Naturals to Combat Heat & Humidity…
1. Crochet Braids:
What the hell are crochet braids? I am glad you asked. As the name suggests, crochet braids are hair extensions that are literally crocheted into your own hair (braided into cornrows) with a latch hook tool.
This type of hairstyle has been popular since the ’90s. But today’s version is done more creatively–from the type of hair used to installation techniques to styling. There are so many ways you can crochet braid your hair. Checkout YouTube for “How-To” videos. This is a great DIY (Do It Yourself) style!
2. Updo with a Flower:
Fancify your upswept style with a flower, decorative pin or vintage brooch.
3. Massive Top Knot
The Nicole Melton bun is infamous in the natural hair community. See the tutorial below.
This hair style is a great updo for protective styling and for special occasions. The Classic Pompadour adds amazing style to fashion and resembles a vintage, old fashion, and classy look.
5. Senegalese Twists
They take a few hours to install, but you’ll never have to worry about humidity with this protective style. Here are 11 Easy Senegalese Twist Hair Styles
6. Headband Wrap
A jumbo wrap adds some serious flare. Head bands are the perfect get up and go accessory, and can be used for protective styling or just on those days when you’re looking to spice up your look with something colorful.
7. Halo Updo
If you can twist, you can achieve this look. Don’t believe me? Just watch the short tutorial
8. The Bouffant
9. Twisted Front
This style is very similar to the Half up-Half down style. You would tuck and roll the front or the crown area of your hair. Or if you prefer a rope twist or flat twist, these are also perfect for this style. Use a couple of bobby pins to secure any hair left. I tuck and pin toward the middle.
10. Curly Fro
Or just the let the humidity take control and add more volume to your badass fro.
