7 Things You Should Stop Saying to Single Child-Free Women

I hear the most ridiculous comments to or about single women or women without children. Comments that never seem to apply to single men or men without children.  Lets just jump right to it:

  • When are you going to have children?
When you mind your damn business.  How about you let me worry about my own womb, k? Thanks.  NEXT!
  • You’re over 30 and you’re still not married? What’s wrong with you?
There’s NOTHING more irritating than the assumption that something must be wrong with you because you’re not married.  ESPECIALLY when a man that’s over 30 and not married is never assumed to have “something wrong with him.”  I see people rush into marriages or marry just to floss a ring but be miserable at home.  I know men who married out of being pressured.  I don’t want none of that.  When my time comes, it comes.
  • Stop getting advice from your single friends.
What does being single at that moment have to do with the ability to give good sound advice?  I don’t need to be in a relationship or married to know that you should be honest, that you should communicate with your partner/spouse, that a healthy relationship/marriage takes work and commitment, that you should love and respect your partner/spouse, that the things you did to get him/her you should continue to do, that you shouldn’t emasculate your husband or rule over your wife like a dictator, that there should be peace in your home and everything else that makes relationships work.  There are miserable, bitter, married women I would not let give me directions to Wal-Mart let alone directions on relationships.  Just because I do not have “the ring” does not mean I’m ill-equipped to give advice.  I had a married friend tell me she made a MAJOR life decision that ultimately effects her husband and household without telling her husband.  I told her she was dead wrong.  I did not need to be married to know that.  But her married friend told her, “girl, that’s YOUR decision.”
  • She’s probably one of those “I’m independent, I don’t need no man” type of woman.
This is a touchy one because I do know a handful of single women that have this mindset.  I actually HATE hearing women say this.  A grown ass woman’s independence has nothing to do with being single.  I love love and can not WAIT until it’s my turn.
  • She probably can’t have any children.
There you go worrying about our reproductive game again.  Could it be that I made a RATIONAL decision to either a) not have children, b) not have children all randomly with multiple fathers, and c) wait until I was married so that I can give the child exactly what I received which was a stable, TWO PARENT household.
  • If she looks good, can cook, has no children and single….she’s CRAZY.
I’m not even going to address this.  NEXT!
  • Single women are bitter.
Single, women and bitter are not synonymous.  Yeah, there are bitter women, just like there are bitter men, but anytime a single women speaks, doesn’t mean it’s coming from a bitter place.

PLEASE stop saying these things.

Carry on.

I'm personally tired of anyone asking me when I'm going to have children or what's wrong with me because I don't have children. SYAD somewhere..ugh.
