Dear Future Husband,

I find myself thinking about you often. I wonder how you’re doing. What makes you smile. What you like to do for fun. I know it may seem strange to think about someone I haven’t even met yet, but maybe I have met you before because I can feel you all around me.

There was a time when I thought we would never find each other. Hell, at one point, I didn’t think I even deserved you. I was all over the place. Disconnected. Not really dating with a purpose.  Mourning a love lost because I thought he was you. Imagine the years I wasted with a man in a mental space that was designed for you?

I knew you were always out there.  Waiting for me.  Well, not really waiting for me.  You had your share of Anjela knockoffs, like I had my share of future husband knockoffs. You were just patiently waiting for our paths to cross. I couldn’t in good faith take that path until I was ready to love a man like you.  I wanted to make sure I was mentally, spiritually physically ready to be the wife that could support you, be your sounding board, be your peace at home.  I needed to be the woman a King like yourself finds comfort and consolation in and the one that puts that beautiful smile on your face.

But then it happened.  Our paths crossed.  And I want to thank you for being the man you are. I didn’t want you to be perfect, but you’re pretty damn close. You’re perfect for me.  You love me exactly how I want and need to be loved. You’re my sounding board. My protector and peace in the middle of a storm. You make me love you effortlessly. Your honesty and commitment is a breath of fresh air. You’re the epitome of Black manhood.  Being submissive is easy because you don’t run our home like a dictatorship.  This is chess for you and you see the Queen in me.

After the passing of my father, I had dreams and “visions” that he was worried that no one would protect me like he would. Then you came along. I know he’s resting peacefully now.  And I love you for that.  I can’t wait to grow gray with you.

Your future wife
